Pune Metro is set to unveil Line 2, connecting Ruby Hall to Ramwadi, next week after receiving conditional permission for passenger services from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety over a week ago. Commuters are eagerly anticipating the opening of this stretch, which was initially planned for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 19 but faced delays. Despite hopes for a virtual inauguration on February 25, the event did not materialize. Now, Pune Metro is aiming to launch the stretch in anticipation of the election code of conduct.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) oversees Pune Metro operations, and all preparations for the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch inauguration have been reportedly completed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to conduct the inauguration via video conference, although the exact date is yet to be confirmed.

The extension of the metro service, covering the 9.7 km route from Vanaz to Ruby Hall, started on August 1 last year and has since expanded. However, the 5.5 km Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch, with four stations – Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyani Nagar, and Ramwadi – is yet to commence operations.

The first trial run for this segment was completed in October 2023. When passenger operations begin, Yerawada station will initially be inaccessible due to ongoing construction work, paused in November last year following community complaints about traffic disruptions. The station is expected to reopen within a month upon completing its second entry-exit point.

The Ruby Hall to Ramwadi metro station stretch holds significance for commuters, promising enhanced connectivity and improved transportation in Pune, with Yerawada station strategically located after Bund Garden station on Ahmednagar Road.
